The Odysseus Complex

A Clinical Tool Meant to Assist Clients in Building Character Resilience and Strength Of Identity Through the Cultivation of the Virtues

Just like its predecessor the Oedipus Complex, the Odysseus Complex is an exciting new and original psychotherapeutic tool meant to assist the clinician in accessing the Unconscious Mind of the client in a way that might otherwise be unaccessible to both. The Oedipus Complex was created by Sigmund Freud as a means of granting him immediate access to what Freud called a client's "Oedipal conflict" which he identified as the conflict arising in a person's mind from their childhood, parental relationships and sexuality. The Odysseus Complex was created by John Tzavelas as a means of granting any clinician immediate access to the client's "Odsyssean psychological conflict": that is, to help the client identify their pothos. Pothos means an individual's longing to find their identity, to discover who they are in an Odyssean way--going from being nobody to being somebody.
